SCRIPTURE
READING IS ALWAYS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE PRAYER MEETING. GENERALLY, THE
LEADER WILL START THE MEETING WITH A SCRIPTURE READING AND A DISCUSSION
OF THAT READING.
THE ATTENDEES AT THE MEETING ARE ALSO FREE TO READ SCRIPTURE AT ANY TIME
IN THE MEETING WHEN THEY ARE SO MOVED. MOST OF THE TIME THE SCRIPTURE
THAT IS READ WILL FIT INTO THE THEME FOR THE EVENING THAT THE LEADER HAS
SET.
1 Timothy 4:13 “Until I come, (says Paul) devote
yourself to the public reading of scripture, to preaching and to teaching.”
2 Timothy 3:16 “I want men everywhere to lift up
holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.”
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and
active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing
soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes
of the heart.”
James 5:16 “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful
and effective.”
Matthew 6:6 “When you pray, go into your room,
close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father
who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
